In Boston
From Monday evening through Thursday evening I was in Boston this past week. So I brought along my trusty camera to take notes on what makes Boston different...
Regular Tonic? Diet Tonic? Apparently in Boston they REALLY like tonic, as in "Hey Mikey, get me a tonic, the Red Sox game is on..." See, I told you Boston is different:
This is your typical street scene in downtown Boston. The guy with the electronic keyboard was playing a jazzy version of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson:
This bus' sign was blinking two messages, "Out of Service" and "Go Red Sox":
Even the boats are Irish in Boston:
Do you ever get the feeling that the iPod is the 8-Track Tape of the 00s?
Most of the neighborhoods in Boston have names that are of English origin - and therefore mean something. I suppose if you are a single, sober guy, then 'Alewife' is the place for you.
Meanwhile, if you want to eat some smartfood, you can literally pick ripe brains in the orchards of Braintree.
Did I mention that there are a lot of Irish people in Boston? As you can see in the latest election you have a choice between Donlan, Sullivan, Vinton, Callaghan, and Moran...
More Boston English - this time the public use of the British English word "queue":
There are some Italians in Boston, however. They are all kept in the North End, near Paul Revere's house. This place is called Bella Bambina. You can't beat that!
Aha! I knew you just needed another feel good street scene. This guy was playing his pots and pans near the guy that was playing the electric keyboard:
Yeah, there are awesome Boston moments like this one - staring up at the Old North Church at 11 pm on a Wednesday night. You forget that our republic was essentially founded in Boston. It all happened here. Yes, the Marylanders and Rhode Islanders also attacked British commercial boats and made tax collectors drink hot tea and wear tar and feathers. But the USA really began in Boston. It is the real first capital.
